About Prelude Music Classes

Founded in 2006 by Dr. Ana Treviño-Godfrey, Prelude Music Classes has brought the joy of the Music Together® program to more than 10,000 families across Houston, Sugar Land, and The Woodlands. Prelude classes offer children and their caregivers a unique opportunity to bond through the power of music while supporting the child's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. And there is also a whole lot of fun.

We offer classes for children from birth through age 7, plus additional programs that extend into third grade. Each 45-minute class is led by a certified Music Together instructor in a relaxed, noncompetitive environment, where both children and adults are encouraged to sing, dance, wiggle, giggle, and play while enjoying a special bonding experience. While our Music Together classes form the core of what we do, the Prelude commuity extends far beyond our walls, and we are thrilled to host family concerts, play dates at local venues, and other opportunities for Prelude families to sing and play together. The Story of Prelude

"Prelude was born when I was in the middle of my doctoral program at Rice University," recalls Prelude Director Ana Treviño-Godfrey. "Our daughter was still very young, and we were involved in a co-op preschool. One day, one of the parents suggested that I contribute a musical element to our curriculum, so I began researching programs. That's when I first came across Music Together."

Ana later had an opportunity to attend training with the program's founder, Ken Guilmartin. "That weekend changed my life," she says. "By the end of the first day, I had fallen in love with Music Together, and the idea behind Prelude Music Classes began to take shape."

Prelude officially launched in 2006 with just two classes in a borrowed space. "Before we knew it," Ana recalls, "two classes had turned into four, which turned into 16, 18, 24 ... We began hiring teachers and became large enough to have our own facility."

Soon Ana's husband, Jonathan, joined the Prelude family both as an instructor and as the organization's business manager. "He saw how happy I was doing this work, and he wanted to be a part of it," says Ana. "Of course I was thrilled to have him on board – I still am!"

In 2013, Prelude offered its first classes in Sugar Land, and in 2014, they opened our Woodlands location. Later that same year, Ana and Jonathan founded the Prelude Music Foundation. "We saw the impact that Prelude had on families," Ana recalls, "and we felt called to bring that experience to children in need across the Houston area." Every week, the Foundation sends Prelude teachers into pre-K and kindergarten classrooms in lower-income areas, spreading the joy and developmental benefits of the Music Together program to an even-wider community.

"Prelude isn't just what we do," Ana explains. "It's who we are. In our own way, we are bringing peace to the world, one child, one family at a time. We work with people who care deeply about education, who love wholeheartedly with compassion and gratitude. We have the best job in the world."
